What Is Atletico Madrid Fan Token (ATM)?

Atletico Madrid Fan Token (ATM) is the official crypto token for the Spanish football club, Atlético de Madrid. It was created to help the club (commonly known as Los Colchoneros, or Atleti in Spanish-speaking countries) to connect and engage with its global fan base.

ATM was launched through a partnership between the team and Socios, a sports fan engagement app. Socios is powered by Chiliz, which is a sidechain built on Ethereum. As such, Socios executes smart contracts that enable sports teams to interact with their fans using blockchain technology.

As part of the Fan Token family, ATM holders get to vote on various decisions touching on the team, access VIP experiences, and earn rewards such as exclusive team merchandise.

Atletico Madrid Fan Token (ATM) Price

ATM entered the market in January 2020, when fans could acquire the token at the price of around $2 at the time. It then stagnated between $4 and $7 for most of that year.

It wasn’t until December 2020 that Atletico Madrid Fan Token’s price began to rally. The ATM price pumped hard, from $3.98 on December 1 to bolt through the $10.00 level on December 22 after Atletico Madrid beat Real Sociedad to reach the La Liga finals.

The token continued to rise steadily until the end of that month, hitting $26.09 before retracing sharply on the first day of January 2021. The price decline continued, and ATM found support around $4.50 at the beginning of February.

ATM’s price spiked sharply at the start of May as the finals of La Liga drew closer. It rose from $9.90 on May 12, 2021, rallying to a high of $52.25 on May 22 when Atletico Madrid was crowned the champion for the 2020/21 La Liga season.

The following day, the price dropped sharply and gradually declined in the following weeks to find support around $8.50 at the start of July 2021. After a slight price correction in August 2021, the token’s price dropped slowly.

ATM’s price has been stagnant for most of 2022 with the token trading between $2 and $8.

What Is ATM Used For?

The Socios.com app provides ATM holders with real-world utility for their tokens. As colchoneros, they can help influence the club’s decisions by voting on polls using the Socios app.

Some of the decisions that ATM Fan Token holders have voted on include choosing match graphics at the team’s stadium, picking the official design of the team bus and the design for the Atleti face mask.

ATM has a total supply of 10 million tokens. Ten percent of this supply was allocated to Atletico de Madrid fans in January 2020 via the Socios.com app. The remaining amount is held by the club, and will be released at the rate of 1,666,666 per year.
