About Casper Network (CSPR)
What Is Casper Network (CSPR)?
CSPR is the native cryptocurrency of Casper Network, a Layer 1 proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain designed for easy deployment of enterprise apps. Casper focuses on decentralized app (DApp) developers and business users to promote their product.
The blockchain uses a variation of the PoS consensus algorithm that includes Casper’s correct by-construction (CBC) specification, which creates an energy-efficient and flexible consensus protocol.
A key feature of Casper is the option to upgrade smart contracts post-deployment. This upgradability ensures that DApps launched on the chain can be adapted to evolving business needs.
The chain uses two popular programming languages to facilitate DApp development – Rust and WebAssembly, or Wasm. It also features a compiler for the Solidity programming language, the primary language used on Ethereum (ETH). This feature makes it easy to port Ethereum-based DApps to Casper.
Casper Price (CSPR)
The CSPR coin started trading in mid-May 2021 at a price of around $1.30. However, this price point proved to be unsustainable as the coin plunged to much lower levels within days. By the end of its first trading month on the market, CSPR was worth $0.31.
The coin continued its decline in the following few months, dropping below 7 cents by mid-July 2021. In late 2021, CSPR managed to turn the declining pattern around and slowly climbed up above $0.20 by December. It resumed a downward pattern the same month, and in January 2022, the coin dipped below 10 cents. On a slow and shallow downtrend, the CSPR coin dropped below 5 cents by May 2022. It has largely traded at levels of a few cents since then.
What Is CSPR Used For?
CSPR is used for staking and transaction fee payments on the Casper Network. As a delegator, you can stake your CSPR coins to earn rewards from the block validation activity on the chain. To earn staking rewards, you’ll need to allocate your funds to one of the top 100 validators. It’s crucial to choose one of these active validators, as selecting a validator outside of the top 100 will earn no rewards.
Every validator on Casper sets their own commission fees on your reward earnings. There’s also a cost to delegating and un-delegating CSPR coins: It costs 3 CSPR to delegate and 0.5 CSPR to un-delegate.
