Launch a Coin on Solana: Complete Guide
Learn how to launch a coin on Solana in minutes with no coding. Pump.fun, Token Creator, or CLI methods explained with step-by-step instructions.
How to launch a coin on Solana depends on whether you want a standard SPL token, a meme coin, or a developer-controlled deployment. This guide explains how to launch a coin on Solana and how to create a meme coin on Solana using no-code and command-line methods. Timelines, platform fees, and liquidity requirements can change, so verify every amount in the relevant interface before approving a transaction.
Every coin you create on Solana is an SPL token (Solana Program Library token): the on-chain format every fungible digital asset on the Solana network uses, from meme coins to governance tokens. On Solana, the terms "coin" and "token" are used interchangeably for assets created on the network. Technically, SOL is the native coin and everything else is an SPL token. This guide uses both terms to mean a custom SPL token you create.
Solana is a high-speed blockchain (a distributed digital ledger) that processes thousands of transactions per second. Its Proof of History (PoH) consensus keeps fees low and confirmations fast, making it one of the most active networks for DeFi (decentralized finance) and token launches.
To launch a coin on Solana, follow this process at a high level:
- Set up a Phantom Wallet and fund it with SOL.
- Choose your launch method based on your technical level.
- Configure your token details: name, symbol, supply, logo.
- Create your token using your chosen method.
- Add a liquidity pool on Raydium so buyers can trade it.
Three methods get you to that live token. Pick the one that matches your skill level:
| Method | Technical Level | Historical Cost Reference | Time Requirement | Coding Required | Best For | Post-Launch Path |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pump.fun | Beginner | Variable; verify in platform | Varies | No | Meme coins, no-code launches | Automatic liquidity path subject to current platform rules |
| Solana Token Creator | Beginner–Intermediate | Variable; verify in tool | Varies | No | Community tokens, custom supply | Manual liquidity setup may be required |
| SPL Token CLI | Advanced | Network and account fees vary | Depends on setup and testing | Yes (CLI) | Project tokens, governance tokens | Manual liquidity setup may be required |
The table describes relative complexity rather than a guaranteed budget. Token creation, account rent, priority fees, and optional liquidity all vary. Historical figures later in this article come from the Q1 2025 source snapshot and must be checked in the relevant interface. A bonding curve is Pump.fun's automated pricing system, explained fully in Method 1. See the full cost breakdown for all fees.
Before You Start: Prerequisites and Key Concepts
Before you launch, gather four things and understand three on-chain concepts that every Solana token shares.
Your prerequisites checklist:
- Install Phantom Wallet as a browser extension or mobile app and set it up.
- Obtain enough SOL from a supported and lawful source to cover the fees shown in your chosen tool, then transfer it to your Phantom Wallet. You can review the current SOL price or, if available in your region, the SOL/USDT spot market before deciding how much to transfer. Do not rely on a fixed minimum because platform fees and optional liquidity requirements change.
- Prepare your token name, ticker symbol, and a logo image (PNG or JPG, under 1MB).
- Decide your total supply and decimal places before you open any tool.
Methods 1 and 2 require no coding. Only Method 3 (CLI) requires command-line tools.
Note (Legal): The legality of creating, marketing, distributing, or selling a token varies by jurisdiction and by how the token is structured. Securities, consumer-protection, tax, and financial-promotion rules may apply. This article does not constitute legal advice. If you plan to sell tokens to investors or conduct a public fundraise, consult a qualified attorney familiar with securities law in your jurisdiction.
What Is an SPL Token?
An SPL token (Solana Program Library token) is Solana's native standard for fungible digital tokens. It is the on-chain format every coin on the Solana network uses, from meme coins to governance tokens. When you launch a coin on Solana, you are creating an SPL token. This is distinct from NFTs, which use a non-fungible standard.
Key Terms You Need to Know
Token mint is the on-chain account that defines your token. Think of it as the master record for your coin: it stores the supply rules, decimal precision, and who controls the token. When you "create a coin on Solana," you are deploying a token mint account.
Mint authority is the wallet address that controls whether new tokens can be created. Whoever holds mint authority can increase the token supply at any time. Revoking it permanently disables new token creation and signals to buyers that the supply is fixed.
Freeze authority is the keypair that can lock individual token accounts, preventing holders from transferring your token. Most legitimate projects revoke this to show they cannot restrict holder funds.
Token metadata is the on-chain record that stores your token's name, symbol, logo URI, and description. Without it, your token appears as an anonymous address in wallets and on DEXs.
Tokenomics refers to the economic design of your token: total supply, decimal places, and whether additional tokens can ever be minted. Decide your tokenomics before you launch. Common supply choices are 1 billion tokens for meme coins and 1 million for project tokens. Keep mint authority in mind: retaining it means you can mint more later, which some holders view as a red flag.
How Much Does It Cost to Launch a Coin on Solana?
Solana is commonly used for token creation because its network fees are generally low. A basic launch still requires SOL for network and platform fees; the amount shown in the interface is the authoritative figure at the time of the transaction.
| Cost Item | Pump.fun | Token Creator | SPL CLI | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phantom Wallet setup | Free | Free | Free | Download at phantom.app |
| Minimum SOL in wallet | 0.1–0.5 SOL | 0.1–0.5 SOL | 0.1–0.5 SOL | Buffer for all fees |
| Token creation fee | ~0.02 SOL | ~0.01–0.02 SOL | ~0.0025 SOL | Pump.fun fee in the Q1 2025 source snapshot |
| Token metadata upload | Included | Included | ~0.01–0.02 SOL | CLI method requires a separate metadata transaction |
| Raydium LP creation fee | Automatic on graduation | ~0.15–0.3 SOL | ~0.15–0.3 SOL | Does not apply until graduation for Pump.fun |
| Liquidity seed capital | Optional | Recommended | Recommended | Your own funds; not a fee |
| Liquidity lock fee | N/A | ~0.01–0.05 SOL | ~0.01–0.05 SOL | Via Streamflow or Fluxbeam |
| Minimum viable total | ~0.1–0.5 SOL | ~0.3–0.8 SOL | ~0.3–0.8 SOL | Excluding liquidity seed capital |
Note: All estimates are approximate in the Q1 2025 source snapshot. SOL price fluctuates. USD equivalents are not listed to avoid immediate inaccuracy. Verify current fees at pump.fun and raydium.io before proceeding.
You cannot launch a coin on Solana completely free because on-chain transactions require SOL fees. Third-party platforms may also change their creation fees, so confirm the displayed total before proceeding.
The liquidity seed capital in the table above is not a fee. It is your own SOL and tokens that you deposit into the trading pool to enable buying and selling. You can withdraw this liquidity later, though locking it is a trust signal covered in the How to Make Your Solana Token Trustworthy section.
Note (Financial): This article covers the technical process of creating and launching a Solana token. It does not constitute financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to buy or sell any cryptocurrency. All fee estimates are approximate and subject to change.
How to Launch a Coin on Solana: Choose a Method
Three methods let you launch a coin on Solana. Your technical skill level and how much control you want over your token determine which one fits.
| Pump.fun | Solana Token Creator | SPL Token CLI | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical skill required | Beginner | Beginner–Intermediate | Advanced |
| Cost reference | Variable; verify in platform | Variable; verify in tool | Network and account fees vary |
| Time requirement | Varies | Varies | Depends on setup and testing |
| Coding required | No | No | Yes (CLI) |
| Best for | Meme coins, quick launches | Community tokens, custom supply control | Project tokens, governance tokens |
| Post-launch path | Automatic Raydium pool on graduation | Manual Raydium LP required | Manual Raydium LP required |
Note: Pump.fun uses a bonding curve model. Your token trades within Pump.fun's system until its market cap hits a threshold, at which point it "graduates" to Raydium with an automatic liquidity pool. Full explanation in Method 1.
Pump.fun is a launchpad where tokens trade on a bonding curve before graduating to Raydium. Raydium is a decentralized exchange (DEX) where tokens trade in open liquidity pools. They serve different stages of the same workflow, not competing roles.
Use Method 1 (Pump.fun) if you want a no-code workflow with fewer configuration steps. Use Method 2 (Token Creator) if you want control over supply and authorities without writing code. Use Method 3 (CLI) if you are building a project token and need programmatic control over every parameter.
Method 1: How to Launch a Meme Coin on Solana with Pump.fun (No Code)
Pump.fun is one no-code launchpad available on Solana. It can simplify token creation, although completion time and cost depend on the platform and network conditions. For a focused explanation of its bonding curve, fees, and risks, read the Pump.fun on Solana guide.
What You Need Before You Start
Before you open the Pump.fun site, confirm:
- Your Phantom Wallet has enough SOL to cover the fees currently displayed by the platform and any optional purchase amount.
- Your token name, ticker symbol, and a short description are written out.
- Your logo image is ready (PNG or JPG, under 1MB recommended).
Step-by-Step: Launching on Pump.fun
Pump.fun handles token creation, metadata upload, and initial trading in a single form submission.
- Open your Phantom Wallet and confirm your SOL balance covers fees.
- Navigate to pump.fun in your browser.
- Click "Connect Wallet" and approve the connection in Phantom.
- Click "Create a new coin."
- Enter your token name and ticker symbol.
- Write a short description for your token.
- Upload your token logo (PNG or JPG, under 1MB).
- Add your social links: Twitter/X handle, Telegram group, website URL. These are optional but strengthen trust signals with early buyers.
- Set your initial SOL buy amount. Buying on launch is optional; it seeds your starting position.
- Review the creation fee shown on screen. Fees were approximately 0.02 SOL in the Q1 2025 source snapshot. Verify at pump.fun before launching.
- Click "Create coin" and confirm the transaction in Phantom.
Tip: Your token appears on Pump.fun immediately after the transaction confirms. Once your token gets its first trade, it shows up on DEXScreener automatically. No listing application needed.
What Happens After You Launch on Pump.fun
Your token is live on Pump.fun as soon as the transaction confirms.
A bonding curve is an automated pricing formula that increases your token's price as more people buy and decreases it as people sell. Think of it like an automatic price ladder: each purchase pushes the price a step higher along a predetermined mathematical curve. Your token trades within Pump.fun's system on this curve until it reaches the graduation threshold.
When your token's market cap reaches approximately $69,000 USD (in the Q1 2025 source snapshot, verify the current threshold at pump.fun), it "graduates" from the bonding curve. At graduation, liquidity is automatically seeded on Raydium and your token becomes tradeable on the open DEX market. No action is required from you for graduation to happen.
Tokens that do not reach the graduation threshold remain tradeable within Pump.fun's bonding curve system indefinitely. This is a market dynamics outcome, not a technical failure.
Pump.fun automatically revokes both mint authority and freeze authority on launch. This built-in feature signals to buyers that you cannot inflate the supply or freeze their wallets.
Method 2: How to Create a Solana Token with Token Creator (No Code)
For more control over your token's supply and authority settings than Pump.fun offers, the Solana Token Creator provides a web-based form. No coding required. Unlike Pump.fun, it does not include a built-in trading mechanism or bonding curve, so you manage your own tokenomics and add your own liquidity.
What Is the Solana Token Creator?
The Solana Token Creator is a GUI tool that lets you configure every token parameter by filling in fields and clicking buttons. You control exact supply, decimal places, and whether to revoke authorities at creation time.
One widely used option is Smithii Token Creator at smithii.io/solana-token-creator. Verify the URL is current before proceeding, as tools in this space change.
Before you start, decide your tokenomics: your total supply, decimal places (most meme coins use 6 or 9), and whether to retain or revoke mint authority. Meme coins commonly use a total supply of 1 billion tokens. Project tokens often use 1 million. There is no prescribed answer; match your supply to your project's needs.
Step-by-Step: Launching with Solana Token Creator
The Token Creator gives you direct control over every parameter of your SPL token mint.
- Navigate to the Solana Token Creator tool (smithii.io/solana-token-creator or equivalent; verify the URL before use).
- Connect your Phantom Wallet.
- Enter your token name and ticker symbol.
- Set your token decimals. Token decimals control the smallest fractional unit of your token. Most meme coins use 6 or 9 decimals.
- Set your total supply.
- Upload your token logo image.
- Choose whether to revoke mint authority. See the warning below before deciding.
- Choose whether to revoke freeze authority. Freeze authority lets you lock individual wallets from transferring your token. Most legitimate projects revoke this to show they cannot restrict holder funds.
- Click "Create Token" and confirm the transaction in Phantom.
- Copy and save your token mint address. You will need it to create a liquidity pool.
Warning: If you retain mint authority, you can create more tokens at any time. This can reduce buyer trust in your coin. Revoke it unless your project specifically requires future minting. Revoking is permanent and cannot be undone.
Your token exists on-chain after step 9, but it is not yet tradeable. The next step is adding a Raydium liquidity pool. See Creating a Liquidity Pool on Raydium below.
Method 3: How to Create an SPL Token with the Solana CLI (Developer Method)
The CLI method gives you full programmatic control over your SPL token. It is the preferred path for project tokens and governance tokens built into a DApp or protocol, giving you direct access to every on-chain parameter.
Prerequisites for the CLI Method
Before running any commands, install:
- Rust (required for the Solana toolchain)
- The Solana CLI toolchain (see the Solana CLI installation documentation)
- The SPL Token CLI (
spl-token), which installs alongside the Solana CLI
Warning: Test all commands on devnet before switching to mainnet. Devnet uses free test SOL and has no real-world cost or consequence. Skipping this step risks losing real SOL on failed or misconfigured transactions.
Step 1: Test on Solana Devnet First
Run every command on devnet before touching mainnet.
- Switch your CLI to devnet:
solana config set --url devnet- Airdrop free test SOL to your wallet:
solana airdrop 2- Confirm your balance:
solana balanceRun through the full token creation sequence on devnet. Once everything works as expected, switch to mainnet.
Step 2: Create Your SPL Token on Mainnet
Once you have confirmed the commands work on devnet, switch to mainnet and create your token.
- Switch to mainnet:
solana config set --url mainnet-beta- Generate a new keypair (skip this step if you already have one configured):
solana-keygen new- Create the token mint with your chosen decimal count:
spl-token create-token --decimals 6Copy and save the mint address returned. This is your token's unique on-chain identifier.
- Create a token account to hold your initial supply:
spl-token create-account <MINT_ADDRESS>- Mint your initial token supply to your wallet:
spl-token mint <MINT_ADDRESS> <AMOUNT>- Verify your balance:
spl-token accountsAdd on-chain metadata using Metaplex. Metaplex is the Solana protocol that stores your token's name, symbol, and logo URI on-chain. You do not interact with Metaplex directly: the tooling implements it. Without Metaplex metadata, your token appears as an anonymous address in wallets and on DEXs. Reference the Metaplex Token Metadata documentation for current CLI tooling options.
Revoke mint authority :
spl-token authorize <MINT_ADDRESS> mint --disable- Revoke freeze authority :
spl-token authorize <MINT_ADDRESS> freeze --disableWarning: Revoking mint authority and freeze authority are both irreversible actions. Confirm your supply is final before running these commands.
Your SPL token is now deployed to mainnet. The next step is adding a Raydium liquidity pool so others can trade it. See Creating a Liquidity Pool on Raydium.
Token-2022: Should You Use the Upgraded Token Standard?
Token-2022 (also called the Token Extensions Program) is Solana's upgraded token standard with advanced features not available in the original SPL Token Program.
| Feature | Original SPL Token Program | Token-2022 (Token Extensions) |
|---|---|---|
| Key features | Standard fungible token | Transfer fees, interest-bearing, confidential transfers, non-transferable tokens |
| Best for | Meme coins, community tokens, most project tokens | Projects requiring advanced token mechanics |
| Tool support | All wallets, all DEXs, all launchpads | Growing; some tools may not support all extensions |
| Complexity | Low | Medium–High |
| Program address | TokenkegQfeZyiNwAJbNbGKPFXCWuBvf9Ss623VQ5DA | TokenzQdBNbLqP5VEhdkAS6EPFLC1PHnBqCXEpPxuEb |
For most tokens, including meme coins and basic project tokens, use the original SPL Token Program. It has broader tool support, better wallet compatibility, and is simpler to deploy. Choose Token-2022 only if your project specifically needs transfer fees, interest-bearing tokens, or other extension features.
See the Token-2022 documentation for full extension reference.
How to Add Token Metadata to Your Solana Coin
Token metadata stores your coin's name and symbol on-chain, along with a logo and description. Without it, your token appears as an anonymous address in wallets and on DEXs. Buyers cannot identify it, and it will not display your branding anywhere.
Metaplex is the Solana protocol that handles on-chain metadata storage. You do not interact with Metaplex directly. The tools you use implement it automatically.
For Pump.fun (Method 1): Metadata is embedded in the creation form. Every field you fill in is stored on-chain automatically when you launch.
For Solana Token Creator (Method 2): Metadata is uploaded during the creation process. The tool handles the Metaplex transaction for you.
For CLI (Method 3): Metadata requires a separate step. Use a Metaplex-compatible CLI tool to attach your token's name and symbol, plus a logo URI pointing to a JSON file hosted off-chain with your image URL. Reference the Metaplex Token Metadata documentation for current tooling and command syntax.
Your metadata fields are: name (your token's full name), symbol (the ticker), and URI (a link to a JSON file containing your logo image URL and description). Keep your image file publicly accessible. If the image URL goes offline, your logo disappears from wallets and DEXs.
After Launch: How to Add Liquidity to Your Solana Token
Your token exists on-chain after creation, but it is not tradeable until you add a liquidity pool. This section covers the steps that move your token from created to discoverable.
Creating a Liquidity Pool on Raydium
A liquidity pool is a reserve of two tokens (your coin plus SOL) locked in a smart contract that enables trading on a DEX. Without one, no one can buy or sell your token on the open market.
This step is required for tokens created with Method 2 (Token Creator) or Method 3 (CLI). Pump.fun tokens get a Raydium pool automatically upon graduation.
The pool creation fee is approximately 0.15–0.3 SOL (see the cost breakdown table for current estimates). This fee is separate from your liquidity seed capital.
- Navigate to raydium.io and connect your Phantom Wallet.
- Select "Liquidity" from the navigation menu.
- Click "Create Pool."
- Enter your token mint address as the base token.
- Set SOL as the quote token.
- Set your initial price. This is the ratio of your token to SOL you are seeding, which determines the starting market price.
- Enter the amount of SOL and tokens to deposit into the pool.
- Confirm the transaction in Phantom.
Creating a liquidity pool on Raydium effectively lists your token for trading. Once your pool is live, your token is tradeable on Raydium and may also appear on Jupiter, Solana's leading swap aggregator, which automatically indexes tokens with active liquidity pools on Raydium.
Your Token on DEXScreener
Your token appears on DEXScreener automatically once it has an active liquidity pool on Raydium. No listing application is needed.
Once your LP creation event is recorded on-chain, DEXScreener indexes your token, typically within minutes. This read-only analytics platform aggregates on-chain data but does not facilitate trades. Expect to see price and volume data appear shortly after your first trade. Early buyers often discover new tokens through DEXScreener, so filling in your token profile matters.
To update your token's branding on DEXScreener (logo, website, social profiles), submit a verification request through the DEXScreener interface at dexscreener.com.
Your token is tradeable on Solana DEXs like Raydium immediately after launch. CEX listings (Coinbase, Binance) require separate applications and significant demonstrated trading volume.
Applying to CoinGecko
CoinGecko requires a manual listing application. It is not automatic.
Submit a listing request through the CoinGecko listing request form. CoinGecko expects active trading on a known DEX, your token mint address, a project website, and social media accounts. Approval is not guaranteed and typically takes weeks. CoinMarketCap is an alternative aggregator with its own separate application process.
While you wait for aggregator listings, focus on community visibility:
- Create a dedicated Twitter/X account for your token.
- Post in relevant Telegram groups and subreddits.
- Update your DEXScreener token profile with your logo and project links.
How to Make Your Solana Token Trustworthy
Three actions make a token look trustworthy to buyers. They cost little time or SOL to complete. Buyers analyze new tokens for signals that a creator might abandon or manipulate the project. The following steps address the most common red flags.
Revoke Mint Authority and Freeze Authority
Buyers analyzing your token look for two signals above all others: whether you can print more tokens, and whether you can freeze their wallets.
As covered in the key terms section, mint authority controls your ability to create new tokens. In the context of trust, revoking it sends a clear signal: the supply is permanently locked. Most token analysis tools flag tokens with active mint authority as higher risk.
Freeze authority lets you restrict individual wallets from transferring your token. Revoking it confirms you cannot target or block any holder's funds.
How to revoke, by method:
- Pump.fun: Revocation is automatic on launch. Nothing more is needed.
- Token Creator: The UI offers revocation options at creation time. If you did not revoke at creation, use the CLI commands below.
- CLI: Run the following commands, replacing
<MINT_ADDRESS>with your token's mint address:
spl-token authorize <MINT_ADDRESS> mint --disablespl-token authorize <MINT_ADDRESS> freeze --disableWarning: Revoking mint authority is irreversible. Confirm you will never need to create additional tokens before running this command.
Lock Your Solana Liquidity
Locking liquidity shows buyers that you cannot drain the trading pool for a defined period. This is a strong trust signal for any newly launched token.
A liquidity lock commits your LP tokens to a time-locked smart contract, preventing you from withdrawing the liquidity pool funds for a set period. The distinction matters: you are locking your LP tokens (which represent your share of the Raydium pool), not the tokens themselves.
After creating your Raydium liquidity pool:
- Take your LP tokens to a locking tool.
- Set a lock duration (30 days is a common minimum; 6–12 months signals stronger commitment).
- Confirm the lock transaction.
Two liquidity locking tools that support Solana SPL LP tokens are Streamflow and Fluxbeam.
Note: Verify that Streamflow and Fluxbeam are active and support Solana SPL LP tokens before use. Third-party tools in the crypto space can change or discontinue service. We are not affiliated with or compensated by any tool mentioned in this guide.
Build a Transparent Public Presence
A rug pull happens when a token creator drains the liquidity pool or dumps their holdings after attracting buyers, causing the token price to collapse. As a creator launching a legitimate project, your goal is to ensure your token does not carry those signals.
Note: This section helps legitimate token creators demonstrate trustworthiness. Creating a token with intent to defraud buyers is fraud, a criminal offense in most jurisdictions. This guide does not assist or endorse deceptive practices.
Buyers look for these signals:
| Trusted token behaviors | Red flags buyers look for |
|---|---|
| Mint authority revoked | Mint authority retained (creator can print more) |
| Freeze authority revoked | Freeze authority retained (creator can freeze wallets) |
| Liquidity locked for defined period | Liquidity unlocked (creator can drain pool) |
| Project website with public team | Anonymous team with no web presence |
Take three verifiable actions: revoke mint authority, lock your liquidity, and maintain a public presence with a website and social accounts backed by transparent team information. Pump.fun's automatic authority revocation means Method 1 tokens are already more transparent than tokens created with retained authorities.
How to Create a Meme Coin on Solana
A meme coin uses the same SPL token infrastructure as other fungible Solana tokens, but its branding, distribution, community expectations, and disclosure risks need separate attention. The technical ability to create a token does not guarantee demand, liquidity, legality, or future value.
How to Design Your Meme Coin Tokenomics
Tokenomics covers the design decisions around your token's supply, distribution, and authority settings. These decisions determine how buyers perceive your project before they spend a single SOL. No competitor guide covers this topic in depth; the five decisions below must be made before deploying.
Total Supply
Most Solana meme coins use a total supply between 1 billion and 1 quadrillion tokens. Large supplies create low per-token prices. A token priced at $0.000001 feels more accessible to retail buyers than one priced at $10. A supply of 1,000,000,000 (1 billion) tokens is a common starting point.
Decimal Places
The SPL token standard supports 0–9 decimal places. The default is 9. Most meme coins use 6 or 9. Fewer decimals can create a sense of whole-token ownership in your community; some projects use 0 decimals so holders always see whole numbers.
Allocation Breakdown
| Allocation | Percentage | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Liquidity pool | 50% | Initial trading liquidity on Raydium |
| Community / airdrop | 20% | Early holder incentives |
| Team / reserve | 15% | Development and operations |
| Marketing | 15% | Influencer outreach, campaigns |
The exact percentages are your call. Insider allocations above 15% without vesting schedules are widely seen as a red flag by buyers.
Burn Mechanics (Optional)
Token burning permanently removes tokens from circulation, reducing total supply and creating deflationary pressure. To burn tokens on Solana, use the spl-token burn command or your wallet's built-in burn interface. This is optional and not required for launch.
Mint Authority and Freeze Authority
Mint authority is the ability to create additional tokens. Holding mint authority after launch means you could inflate the supply at any time, and buyers know this. Freeze authority is the ability to block token transfers for specific accounts.
⚠️ Warning: Keeping mint authority without publicly disclosing it is a common rug pull signal. Most credible meme coin launches revoke both mint and freeze authority after the initial supply is minted. Revoking is irreversible, so confirm your total supply is final before proceeding.
After Launch: How to Market and Grow Your Meme Coin
Your token is live. Now the real work begins. Community traction separates a meme coin with staying power from one that fades within hours.
Set up a Twitter/X account for your token. Post a launch announcement that includes your mint address, Raydium pool link, and liquidity lock proof. Pin this post to the top of your profile.
Create a Telegram group. This is the primary coordination channel for most Solana meme coin communities. Pin your token details, contract address, and tokenomics on day one. Moderate actively in the first 48 hours.
Launch a Discord server for deeper community engagement, holder discussions, and giveaway coordination. Discord works best once your Telegram community has initial momentum.
Submit your token to DEX Screener (dexscreener.com) and Birdeye (birdeye.so) to claim your token page and add your logo, social links, and description for better display.
Run an airdrop campaign. Send tokens to early community members to seed engagement, create initial holders, and reward early supporters. Airdrops lower the barrier to participation and generate organic social sharing.
Engage KOLs (key opinion leaders) on crypto Twitter/X. Organic mentions from credible crypto accounts drive discovery faster than paid ads. Reach out directly with your project details, pool link, and transparency information.
Create shareable meme content. The concept behind your token must travel on its own. Short-form video on TikTok and YouTube Shorts, plus image memes on Twitter/X, extend reach into audiences that would not otherwise find your token.
Post in relevant subreddits such as r/solana and r/CryptoMoonShots, which welcome new project announcements when posted with full transparency. Include your contract, liquidity lock status, and team information.
Solana's BONK grew its initial holder base through a community airdrop in December 2022, a grassroots distribution mechanism rather than a marketing budget. dogwifhat (WIF) grew through meme virality and community momentum across Twitter/X and Telegram.
References to BONK and dogwifhat (WIF) are for illustrative purposes only. Past performance of any cryptocurrency does not indicate future results. Meme coin investments are highly speculative and most meme coins fail to retain value.
💡 Pro Tip: Transparency is your most powerful marketing tool. Share your wallet address, token contract, and liquidity lock proof publicly from day one. Communities trust what they can verify on-chain.
Risks, Legal Considerations, and How to Avoid Being Flagged as a Rug Pull
A rug pull is a type of crypto fraud where token creators drain liquidity or dump their token supply after attracting buyers, leaving the token worthless. A rug pull (intentional fraud) is different from a failed project (unintentional loss of value). Both can result in a token going to zero, but only intentional fraud carries legal liability for the creator.
As a creator, your project can be perceived as a rug pull even with no fraudulent intent. If you retain mint authority, leave liquidity unlocked, or maintain an anonymous identity with no verifiable information, buyers will apply the same suspicion they apply to confirmed frauds.
How to Signal Legitimacy
- Revoke mint authority to prove no new tokens can ever be created beyond your initial supply
- Revoke freeze authority to prove you cannot block any holder's token transfers
- Lock liquidity for a defined period to prove you cannot drain the trading pool
- Publish your wallet address publicly so anyone can verify your on-chain activity
- Avoid concentrating supply in team wallets without vesting, as insider allocations above 10–15% with no vesting schedule signal dump risk
| Action | Trust Signal Level |
|---|---|
| Mint authority revoked | 🟢 High: verifiable on-chain by anyone |
| Freeze authority revoked | 🟢 High: verifiable on-chain by anyone |
| Liquidity locked 6+ months | 🟢 High: strong long-term commitment signal |
| Team wallet publicly disclosed | 🟡 Medium: increases accountability |
| Anonymous team + no liquidity lock | 🔴 Red flag: matches rug pull pattern |
| Large insider allocation, no vesting | 🔴 Red flag: signals dump risk |
⚠️ Warning: Creating a token with the intent to defraud buyers constitutes fraud under the laws of many jurisdictions and can result in civil and criminal liability. This is not a risk to dismiss.
Legal and Regulatory Risk
Creating a meme coin is generally legal in most jurisdictions. However, whether your specific token constitutes a security under local law depends on how it is marketed and distributed. Tokens marketed with explicit profit expectations may be classified as securities, which carries registration and disclosure obligations.
⚠️ Warning: The legal status of creating and distributing cryptocurrency tokens varies by jurisdiction. This content does not constitute legal advice. If you are uncertain about the legal implications of creating a meme coin in your country or region, consult a qualified legal professional before proceeding.
Financial Risk
Most meme coins fail to retain value. Your initial SOL investment (creation fees, liquidity deposit, and any marketing spend) is at full risk. Community members who buy your token bear financial risk as well. This is not a guaranteed return vehicle for anyone involved.
Frequently Asked Questions About Launching a Coin on Solana
How do you launch a coin on Solana?
Choose a no-code creator or the Solana CLI, configure the token mint and metadata, verify the deployment on-chain, and add liquidity only if trading is part of the project design. Test developer workflows on devnet first and confirm all current fees before approving a mainnet transaction.
Do you need to know how to code to launch a coin on Solana?
No. Pump.fun and the Solana Token Creator both let you launch a token by filling in a form with no coding required. The CLI method covered in Method 3 is for developers who want full programmatic control. For most users creating a meme coin or community token, Method 1 or Method 2 is the right choice.
How long does it take to launch a coin on Solana?
No-code tools are generally faster than a CLI deployment, but there is no guaranteed completion time. Wallet setup, parameter decisions, network conditions, and devnet testing can all extend the process.
What is the difference between a coin and a token on Solana?
On Solana, the terms are used interchangeably for assets created on the network. Technically, SOL is the native coin; everything else is an SPL token. This guide uses both terms to mean a custom SPL token you create on Solana. There is no functional difference between a "meme coin" and a "community token" at the technical creation level.
What is a bonding curve on Pump.fun?
A bonding curve is an automated pricing formula that increases your token's price as more people buy and decreases it as people sell. On Pump.fun, your token trades on this curve until its market cap reaches approximately $69,000 USD (in the Q1 2025 source snapshot; verify at pump.fun for current figures). Once it hits that threshold, it graduates to Raydium with an automatic liquidity pool, where it becomes tradeable on the open market.
What happens if my Pump.fun token does not reach the graduation threshold?
It remains tradeable within Pump.fun's bonding curve system. Tokens that never reach the graduation threshold are not listed on Raydium and do not appear on DEXScreener automatically. They stay active on Pump.fun as long as buyers and sellers interact with the bonding curve. This is a market dynamics outcome, not a technical failure.
Can I launch a Solana token on mobile?
Pump.fun is accessible on mobile browsers with the Phantom mobile app, making it the most practical option for a mobile launch. The Solana Token Creator may work on mobile but is designed for desktop browsers. The CLI method requires a desktop environment and is not suited for mobile use.
Is creating a token on Solana legal?
Creating a token on Solana is generally legal in most jurisdictions. How you market and sell it may carry regulatory obligations, particularly if your token could be classified as a security under applicable law. The relevant legal test in the US is the Howey Test; the EU applies the MiCA framework. This guide does not provide legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney if you plan to sell tokens to investors or conduct a public fundraise.
Why isn't my Solana transaction confirming?
Check three things:
- Do you have enough SOL in your wallet to cover fees? Insufficient SOL is the most common cause of failed transactions.
- Is your Phantom Wallet connected to Solana mainnet, not devnet? Switching networks is a common mistake after CLI testing.
- Is the Solana network experiencing congestion? Check Solana network status for current performance.
Most failed transactions trace to one of these three causes. If a transaction fails, the SOL fee is typically still charged, so keep a buffer in your wallet before launching.
Launch Checklist: Your Solana Token Pre-Launch, At Launch, Post-Launch
Use this checklist to confirm every step is complete before and after your token goes live.
Pre-launch:
- Phantom Wallet installed and funded with SOL.
- Token name, symbol, logo image, and description prepared.
- Total supply and decimal places decided.
- Method selected: Pump.fun, Token Creator, or CLI.
At launch:
- Token created and mint address saved.
- Mint authority decision made (review whether revocation fits your design).
- Freeze authority decision made (review whether revocation fits your design).
Post-launch:
- Liquidity pool created on Raydium (required for Token Creator and CLI methods; automatic for Pump.fun graduation).
- DEXScreener token profile updated with your logo and project links.
- Liquidity locked via Streamflow or Fluxbeam (best practice for all methods with a manual LP).
- CoinGecko listing application submitted at coingecko.com/en/request-form (when trading volume supports it).
Your token is live on Solana. The steps above move it from existence to discovery.
